One of the largest Digital Imaging Exposition in Hong Kong is coming to town, Canon Expo 2007. The key highlights of this expo includes the ice rink stadium, ice skating performance of Swan Lake on Ice by the Imperial Ice Stars and the 3D high definition movie of Swan Lake on Ice. This 3D high definition movie of Swan Lake On Ice was conceived and shot by Hong Kong famous 3D cinematography, Henry Chung. We had featured Mr. Henry Chung
several times in our newsletter. But what makes this 3D movie extra
special for us is because of Fatbars' role in its production workflow.
All
the cameras for this awesome project are from Canon and are all HDV.
Together, there were a total of five HDV cameras: two XL H1s, with two
wide-angle lenses and two XL-G1s. And one XL-A1 was designated for "the
making of" segment of this project. The additional camera set up, gave
Henry the ability to have less re-takes as he was shooting from two
different angles with stereo 3-d at the same time. copyright to FATBARS LIMITED 2009 | Two cameras placed in a calculated distance were used to shoot the same live performance, giving that extra 3D depth to the film. As the shooting time for the film was very tight, there was no room for any errors. Henry Chung had to make every minute and every shot count. After bringing in all the footage shot by both cameras, one of the important steps in our workflow was the synchronization of the edit for each scene from both cameras. Frame to frame accuracy is a must. An anaglyphic composite using Shake was created to check the scenes and individually adjusted to give the best possible 3D result. Then sent back to Final Cut Pro to reassemble into 2 separate clips. Both films, one each for the left and right eye, will be synchronized and separately played out into 2 Barco High definition projectors, creating one 3D movie. A 6m wide screen was especially built by Canon for this expo. For us at Fatbars, what was really valuable was to see first hand, why certain shots worked better than others in 3D. And experience the difference between seeing our 2 Dimensional work becoming 3 Dimensional on the big screen. Swan Lake on Ice 3D short film will debut at the Canon Expo 07 at the Hong Kong Convention Centre from Nov 23 to Nov 25.In addition, you will also meet special guests like Henry Chung who will share his experience and tips of 3D cinematography and photography in the making of Swan lake on ice. Don't Miss it. You can also see the performance of the Imperial Ice Skaters -Swan Lake On Ice in Hong Kong. Audiences and critics were united in their praise, with the show receiving nightly standing ovations.
