We first met Patty when she attended our Apple Certified Final Cut Pro class. We were pleasantly surprised by her enthusiasm, taking that giant leap to follow her dream as a filmmaker. Patty Keung is
a veteran in the Asian media and entertainment business. Over the past
20 years, she has held key positions in many big companies, including
Ogilvy & Mather, Saatchi & Saatchi and Academy One Films, Hong
Kong Cable Television Limited, Time Warner's Turner Entertainment
Networks Asia, Inc., Cartoon Network and TCM. By March 2002, Patty
joined Celestial Pictures as Group Marketing Director. Whilst working
for Celestial, Patty was inspired by the many classic Shaw film legends
that she had the honor to meet in person. This had triggered her
interest in writing stories and becoming a film director. In mid-year
2004, Patty decided to quit her job and went to study for a filmmaking
course jointly hosted by the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers and the
Hong Kong government. This journey led her to Project Orbis. This promotional video and TV commercial project brought Patty to a whole new position, as a videographer. According to the World Health Organization, 37 million people worldwide are blind — yet 28 million don't have to be. ORBIS International is a nonprofit humanitarian organization dedicated to blindness prevention and treatment in developing countries, where 90 percent of the blind reside. copyright to FATBARS LIMITED 2009 | ORBIS Hong Kong was established in early 90s when a
group of impassioned individuals who shared the dream of a world free
from preventable blindness came together to raise public awareness
about eye care issues. This physically demanding project took Patty to Guangyuan in the Sichuan Province of PR China with one of Greater China's most popular singers/actors, Mr. Eason Chan, Orbis Hong Kong's Sight Ambassador. Starting the second year as ORBIS Sight Ambassador, Eason Chan visited remote corners of Guangyuan, China for five days, learning much about the terrible hardships facing China's rural blind. By sharing his experiences, Eason hopes that more people will help ORBIS bring light into these darkness-filled lives. Putting her new learnt skills to the test, Patty edited and completed the whole Project within Final Cut Pro 6. Her Orbis film premiered at the Olympic Plaza, Hong Kong, an event hosted by Orbis Hong Kong, and is currently featured in the Orbis website. Even though her journey with Project Orbis is coming to an end, but her journey as a filmmaker has just begun.
